Inspiration: The Bike Riders

I really feeling the biker look right now and came across this amazing set of images on the Leisure blog featuring the archival book, The Bike Riders.

the book was originally published in 1968 by MacMillan and is still a rare and much sought-after publication for bikers and style enthusiasts alike. Many of the photographs were taken during 1965 and 1966 in the Midwestern United States while Danny Lyon, the photographer, was a member of the Chicago Outlaw Motorcycle Club.

Some of the images (especially the bottom right image in the above collage) are so reminiscent of Versace’s recent F/W 12 runway show  that it really cemented the trend for me.

For their recent F/W 12 showcase at Bread and Butter Berlin, Levi’s Vintage Clothing also heralded the biker movement as a key inspiration for their look and ive been noting greaser washes and customized and studded denim both on the street, on directional tumblrs and on the runway.

Painted Jackets for Attitude Magazine

The Ornamental Conifer who’s influential hand painted jackets have a distinctly biker attitude. Today we’re keeping it in the same vain but these high-color painted jackets could not be more different style-wise!

The shoot above is from Attitude Magazine, who created a project using street artists and designers to customize the classic jean jacket named ‘Ten Jackets by Ten Artists’.
I particularly love the air-brushed example from Mr. Shiz (an artwork trend I see developing over the next few seasons in the world of denim) and the Miami Beach scene which nods to cheesy ’90s leisurewear.

Michael Schmidt Motorcycle Photography

Michael Schmidt is a photographer based in both New York and Los Angeles who, in between shooting fashion pieces for labels like Eat Dust, documents beautiful bike road trips all over the world.

Michael Schmidt and his fantastic photography and short movies made through Belgium denim label, Eat Dust. His inspirational editorials and fashion advertising feature endless road trips on bikes, literally eating dust and catching up with all the major bike builders in the states during his trips. A great portfolio for true motorcycle enthusiasts, the images showcase a great selection of denim in its rawest and purist state – as a real tough garment for the road, worn in and lived in. No posing. i love the classic cut-offs, raw denims and gang patch-covered jackets.

found my concept finally

So its been fews since my briefing for 3rd year research project. Every day since then ive been thinking about what my concept will be i couldn't choose what i wanted to do, i Know in my briefing "Go with something you love " was said. So i made a list of thing of what i love on my list was Armour, Victorian era and  Jane eyre plus many more nothing was jumping out at me i wanted some that no one has done be for.

so then i was looking around at every thing from buildings, Going to my local museum looking there exhibition. Even going to galleys to look at Art exhibition. I even went to a under ground art show, where a local street artist was showing there work to find a concept but that has been done many times before.

Also i started reading a few book and poems to get inspired.

It wasn't until i went away for the weekend until i finally found my concept. I was at event where there was another event where there was a moto bike rally there, I got inspired straight away. From what they was wearing to the the moto bike. I love moto bikes and every thing what come with it. So this is the perfect concept for me i can get a lot from this colour shape and form. Also i will look at the different "gangs" what comes with moto bikes like hells angels, gypes jokers and sons of anarchy. I will look at the history of the gangs and moto bike.

The start

So here it is the final year For my 3rd year of Digital Design for fashion, I get to pick my own theme. We had a briefing about the up coming year and what we should be doing. so I got told i could pick my own concept but it had some we are interests me as it is the form of inspiration for all the design work for 3rd year. Thought out this briefing millions of ideas was going though my head but it had to be the right one because i will need to get a lot from this one inspiration, colour, fabric and shape. Also i have to push this concept to the max.
